Jodie Foster, a.k.a. the Queen of Well-Adjusted Former Child Actors, had some choice words of encouragement for our young Quvenzhané Wallis, the Oscar-nominated star of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. The New York Time's Carpetbagger blog has the scoop.
Here's an excerpt:
“I was really excited that Quvenzhané Wallis was nominated” for an Oscar, she said on the red carpet. “That really made me happy. Because I was worried that she’d be overlooked.”
“I think people don’t really understand child acting,” said Ms. Foster, who first went in front of the camera at age 3. “They think that they just throw them out there, and they’re cute and that’s what they do. But that’s a really layered, beautiful performance that comes from a completely instinctual place. It’s just God-given, you know?”
If that's not a seal of approval, we don't know what is! BEASTS is still showing in theaters across the country, make sure to check out the film's official site for more information.
