"Filmed by Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman), the extraordinary story is told through the eyes of Malala and her family, with whom Guggenheim spent 18 intensive months filming mostly in their current home of Birmingham, England. Yet much like the untraditional young lady the film portrays, the documentary itself is not told in a traditional format. Rather than a linear piece, Guggenheim tells the narrative out of chronological order and uses hand-drawn animation to convey stories from the past."
